The Golf Season Begins!

Let The 2011 Season Begin!

I know we have had a few tournaments already in 2011 but for the old school followers of golf, this weekend marks the true beginning of the golf season.  Back in the day the season kicked off with the tournament the greatest amateur golfer in the world created, The Master’s. As much as the tour “hypes” the early season tournaments, they are merely a last chance for those who have not secured an invitation to this illustrious venue to win and get in.  A few of the same tournaments are a chance for those already in the field, to fine tune their games so to be ready for the first major of the season.  And to most, this is the beginning.

As you may have noticed Phil Mickleson has done just that but is it enough, is he ready, will history repeat his good fortune?  This is yet to be determined but when he won the Bell South Classic in 2006, which he did in the same fashion as this past weekend, Phil went on to win the Masters.  Is he sending a message to the field with his latest win?  Which Phil will show up at Augusta, the Phil America loves and roots for or the Phil we come to expect in Majors, this is the million dollar question.

In any case this years Masters is going to showcase the young talent on the tour today.  Watson, Kirk, McIlroy, and Kim are going to put on a show that will remind us that the future of golf is in good hands.  As always there will be some “old timers” showing they still have the game to play at Augusta because that is what Augusta demands… wisdom, patience, and respect.  Similar characteristics of the creator, Mr. Bobby Jones!  We should not forget about the veterans.  I think Harington and Westwood are not playing well enough to win, maybe not even contend.  The champion of two years ago, Angel  Cabrera may pull it together but that is unlikely.  Without a doubt the past champions have the knowledge to win here but I think if Phil does not repeat we will have a first time winner in 2011!  I wonder what Rickie Fowler has up his sleeve, he is going to do real well as a rookie, a win…

Remember the finish Anthony Kim gave us last year?  Well I believe he will perform all weekend and battle Phil for the coveted green jacket.

Remember the characteristics it takes to win… Tiger is out!  The Masters demands more mentally than he is capable of enduring at this time.

Who’s your favorite?

Best of luck to all playing and all the best to you this season.

Playing Without Expectations

First Round Surprises

Remember Your First Round this year? Now the season is underway. There have been a couple of tournaments at the club and I am sure an outing or too as well. So tell me how your first round of the season went. Better than expected I am sure. This is usually the case for most because there are no expectations! You have not played for awhile and do not expect to play well so you are relaxed and just trying to [...]

“Find Your Minds Eye”

Full Moon Golfer

Do you fix every mediocre shot you hit on the range? Do you say, “I know why I hit that shot,” after every mediocre shot on the course? Do you start to wonder why you hit a good shot? I’ll bet you say, “Now, why can’t I do that every time?” Often when playing or teaching on the range, I hear after a bad shot, or ‘miss’, “What did I do then?” This tells me that that person’s mental game is WAY [...]
